It was in 1260 that Gérard de Villers, Knight of the Order of the Templar, received from the Abbey of Flône the estates of Villers and Clémodeau in exchange for other goods of the Order of the Temple in Hesbaye. Gérard founded a commandery of the Order on these estates. When the Order was dissolved, all its property passed successively to the Hospitallers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (which became the Order of Malta in 1530). From the old commandery, you can see the surrounding walls and a round tower. A Templar commandery was a group of buildings that was both a monastery and a farm and was intended to provide funds to support the work of the Knights Templar in the Holy Land
