The Steinhuder Meer-Bahn AG operated a 52.7-kilometre-long narrow-gauge railway line from Wunstorf via Steinhude, Bad Rehburg, Stolzenau to Uchte and a six-kilometre-long, initially three-track, later only standard-gauge line from Wunstorf to Bokeloh.
On 21 May 1898, the first section from Wunstorf with a terminus station at the Hotel Ritter to Bad Rehburg was put into operation. Further sections followed on 29 October 1898 to Rehburg Stadt, on 9 December 1898 to Stolzenau, on 1 April 1899 to Nendorf and on 2 May 1899 to Uchte Kleinbahnhof. Here was a connection to the Minden district railways. For example, it was possible to travel on narrow-gauge tracks from Wunstorf via Uchte and Minden to Lübbecke in Westphalia.
