The trail takes you through the Elbholz forest, along small and large rivers and lakes, as well as through charming half-timbered villages, such as Gartow with the protected Gartow Castle from the year 1225. This is the home of sea eagles and beavers, which you can discover in their natural environment with a bit of luck from the two observation towers on the Höhbeck and in the Elbholz. The 76m high Höhbeck is a geest island that formed during the Ice Age and, until the construction of the water pumping station in Restorf in the 1950s, repeatedly turned into an island during larger floods. The Höhbeck Museum Vietze and the Woodhenge time windows in Restorf will show you exciting prehistoric excavations of Höhbeck, which has been inhabited since the early Stone Age, during a visit.
