W9-1: PONTE FABRICIO
Photo 1: The four heads
Photo 2: The corner house of Mathilde of Tuscany
The bridge is also known as the Ponte Quattro Capi or the Bridge of the 4 Heads.
The first house on the left upon entering the island is linked to Mathilde of Tuscany, who had an important voice in the Vatican, but can also be associated with the Trappist of Orval.
The story of her life is too fascinating not to mention here, mainly because there is a clear connection with Belgium and our acclaimed Trappist beer. It can be fully read in my Chronicle No. 13. You only need to click the link.
