La monumental iglesia de Nuestra Señora fue construida a mediados del siglo XIII. El coro, como la parte más antigua, es sin duda lo más destacado y aún conserva huellas románicas.
Un proyecto de restauración del arquitecto Chrétien Veraart de 1902 nos muestra cómo probablemente era la iglesia: una masiva torre oeste de piedra con espira de madera, ventanas de roseta en las naves laterales, un portal norte y sur y en su interior bóvedas de cañón de madera en lugar de las bóvedas de arista del siglo XVIII en la nave central.
En el siglo XIII, el pueblo era un lugar de peregrinación mariana muy concurrido, lo que explica inmediatamente la riqueza de la arquitectura y la decoración del edificio.
