La fortaleza Foppa Grande es una obra de artillería suiza en el lado sur del paso del Gotardo en el cantón de Ticino. Se encuentra a 1540 m sobre el nivel del mar en la entrada de la Tremola, en la antigua carretera del Gotardo, por encima de Motto Bartola. La obra construida en 1940 fue desclasificada en 1997 y se reconstruyó y renovó en 2003 como el Sitio Histórico Foppa Grande.
En 1929, Italia construyó una carretera hacia el paso de San Giacomo, que se encuentra a solo 14 kilómetros de distancia de la entrada sur del túnel ferroviario del Gotardo. Los pesados cañones de la artillería italiana se acercaron así a una amenazante proximidad de la fortaleza central del Gotardo. Se consideró urgente reforzar las fortificaciones obsoletas del Forte Airolo, la fortaleza Motto Bartola y el Fort Hospiz, construidas entre 1886 y 1894.
