Especialmente en primavera u otoño, la cadena montañosa con sus variados bosques de coníferas y caducifolios, plantas silvestres y animales ofrece motivos muy interesantes. El Wiehengebirge forma parte desde 1962 del parque natural "Nördlicher Teutoburger Wald / Wiehengebirge" TERRA VITA. Desde 2015, el Wiehengebirge lleva el reconocimiento otorgado por la Unesco: “Geoparque Global de la Unesco“.
