Au centre du hameau se trouve une église de style classique. Houtem a reçu très tôt, grâce à l'intervention de l'abbaye de Ter Kameren, sa propre chapelle, située sur la route vers Vilvoorde comme le montre le Livre des cartes de l'abbaye de 1719. En 1775, une nouvelle chapelle, l'église actuelle, a été construite sous la gestion de l'abbesse Serafina Snoy, dont le blason est conservé au-dessus de l'entrée du chœur.
