À Rocamadour, vous pouvez voir le fragment présumé de Durandal, l'épée du paladin Roland de Charlemagne dans le cycle littéraire connu sous le nom de la "Question de France". Selon Ludovico Ariosto dans "Orlando Furioso", elle appartenait autrefois à Hector de Troie et a été donnée à Roland par Malagigi (Maugris). Le nom vient probablement du verbe français "durer", "durabilité". Dans "La Chanson de Roland", il est dit que l'épée dans son fourreau d'or contient une dent de Saint-Pierre, du sang de Saint-Basile, des cheveux de Saint-Denis et un morceau des vêtements de la Sainte Vierge Marie.
