Le mont Gerbier de Jonc est une montagne d'origine volcanique ardéchoise. Au pied de la montagne se trouve la source de la Loire, le plus long fleuve de France. C'est aussi l'endroit où commence cette promenade. Ceux qui osent et sont en bon état peuvent escalader la montagne avant le début de la randonnée. Le parcours a une longueur de 14 km et traverse en grande partie une zone boisée.
