Victor Emanuel II (Vittorio Emanuele Maria Alberto Eugenio Ferdinando Tommaso ; 14 mars 1820 - 9 janvier 1878) fut roi de Sardaigne à partir de 1849, et le 17 mars 1861, il fut couronné roi d'Italie, le premier roi de l'Italie unie , titre qu'il a occupé jusqu'à sa mort en 1878. Les Italiens l'ont surnommé Père de la Patrie (en italien : « Padre della Patria »).
Il visait une Italie unie, mais l'Autriche - qui jouait un rôle de premier plan dans le nord de l'Italie - s'y opposait. Pourtant, il a réussi avec l'aide des Français.
