La foresta indivisa di Stambruges è composta da popolamenti di latifoglie (frammenti di faggi, querce acidofile su terreni sabbiosi secchi,...) e di conifere, principalmente pini silvestri. Il Mare di Sabbia, situato a sud di questa foresta, comprende numerosi ambienti notevoli: brughiera secca, brughiera torbosa con erica, fossi a phaignes, giovane foresta di betulle pollonanti.
