Rumbeke produsseva uno dei campioni nel mondo della musica. Intorno al 1490 nacque qui Adriaen Willaert. Alcuni decenni dopo sarebbe diventato maestro di cappella della basilica di San Marco per trentacinque anni. Un maestro di cappella è qualcuno che dirige l'esecuzione della musica. Le Fiandre all'epoca erano al vertice nella produzione musicale. Adriaen Willaert è considerato la figura centrale della scuola veneziana e un pioniere del madrigale italiano. Un madrigale è una forma musicale vocale prevalentemente secolare, nata nel XIV secolo nel Nord Italia.
