Dopo la distruzione del villaggio nel 1489, rimase in piedi solo il campanile romanico del XII secolo. Gli abitanti di Overijse non persero il coraggio e iniziarono la ricostruzione della chiesa in stile gotico. Nel 1692, durante un incendio, la chiesa andò nuovamente in fiamme. Fu ricostruita e nel XIX secolo subì un'ultima restaurazione neogotica. Sotto il coro si trova la cripta dei signori di Overijse risalente agli ultimi duecento anni dell'Ancien Régime ( XVII - XVIII secolo).
