Oorspronkelijk stond op de plek van de Kruiskapel een calvariekruis, maar nadat er vijf miraculeuze genezingen hadden plaatsgevonden, wordt er in 1750 een kapel gebouwd. Die moet eind 19de eeuw wijken voor de verbreding van de Kruisstraat, en in 1900 komt de huidige kapel er. Ze is in neogotische stijl uitgevoerd naar een plan van Izegems architect Jules Vercoutere. Binnenin kan je nog altijd het oorspronkelijke kruis zien. Tot in de jaren zestig kwamen mensen uit de omgeving hier op oudejaarsavond om middernacht bidden voor een voorspoedig jaar.
