De toren werd in 1550 gebouwd door de broederschap van Sint-Michaël.
Het is een machtige constructie met een perfect geometrische vorm, een vierkante basis en zichtbare bewerkte oppervlakken, zonder ramen behalve aan de zuidkant. Het heeft de kenmerken van een verdedigingswerk dat in Sciacca werd gebouwd ten tijde van Karel V (16e eeuw), toen de dreiging van piratenaanvallen of een Turkse landing het grootst was. De toren werd waarschijnlijk gebouwd voor observatiedoeleinden en werd later gebruikt als klokkentoren.
Tegenwoordig is het ook een bevoorrecht uitkijkpunt van waaruit u kunt genieten van een 360 graden panorama over de hele stad.
