Het Keelven is een natuurgebied met dennenbossen, vennen en heide. In het gebied zijn diverse wandelroutes uitgezet, variërend van 4 tot 9 km. Deze zijn bereikbaar vanaf de parkeerplaats nabij het Keelven aan de Provincialeweg te Someren-Heeze. Ook lopen er fietspaden door het gebied (onderdeel uitmakend van het fietsknooppunten netwerk). Tevens lopen er uitgepijlde mountainbikeroutes door het gebied.
Sinds 2017 bevindt zich bij de parkeerplaats van het Keelven ook een horecalocatie: De Soete Inval Vennenhorst.
In het gebied lopen ook Schotse Hooglanders, die ervoor zorgen dat de heide niet dichtgroeit.
