Aquest bust va ser erigit en memòria del poeta majorero Domingo Juan Manrique (1869-1934) per iniciativa del periodista Leoncio Rodríguez González.
Va ser creat per l' escultor Miguel Márquez Peñate i inaugurat a la plaça de l'Adelantado el 27 de gener de 1952.
Domingo Juan Manrique va ser un escriptor canari , nascut a San Cristóbal de La Laguna el 1869 i mort a Madrid el 1934.
Domingo Juan Manrique va ser professor de cal·ligrafia a l'Institut de les Illes Canàries. Era lleig i sentimental i participava en tots els concursos de poesia de les illes. El poema El Mencey de Abona és una de les seves obres més destacades.
