Den rundvandrerute er opkaldt efter den sachsiske lærer, kantor, korleder og lokalhistoriker Bruno Barthel (1856-1933), som tilbragte det meste af sit liv i Großdrebnitz. Sachsen sidste konge Friedrich August III. tildelte Barthel den saksiske fortjenstorden for hans ekstraordinære indsats til gavn for Groß- og Kleindrebnitz. Barthels grav står stadig i dag på gavlen af Großdrebnitzer Martinskirke.
