Steinberg am Rofan ist eine Gemeinde mit 287 Einwohnern im Bezirk Schwaz in Tirol . Steinberg am Rofan ist seit 2021 Teil der internationalen Alpenvereinsinitiative Bergsteigerdörfer.Steinberg ist eine kleine, abgelegene Streusiedlung am Rofangebirge. Das Dorf ist über eine zehn Kilometer lange Straße von Achenkirch erreichbar. Der tiefste Punkt der Gemeinde, wo die Steinberger Ache Richtung Pinegg im Osten fließt, liegt knapp unter 850 Meter Seehöhe. Die Berge im Süden, Westen und Norden sind über 2000 Meter hoch. Von der Gemeindefläche von beinahe 70 Quadratkilometer sind achtzig Prozent bewaldet, vier Prozent sind Almen und nur drei Prozent werden landwirtschaftlich genutzt.
