Der Name Ligny erscheint auf allen Denkmälern, die mit den wichtigen napoleonischen Ereignissen zu tun haben. Einschließlich auf dem Arc de Triomphe in Paris oder auf den Hügeln von Ajaccio. Dieses kleine Dorf in der Provinz Namur war am 16. Juni 1815 Schauplatz des letzten Sieges von Napoleon. Die Kämpfe vom 16. Juni 1815 fanden auf dem Gebiet von Fleurus, Balâtre, Wagnelée und Saint-Amand statt, doch nur der Name Ligny ist in der Geschichte haften geblieben. Und niemand weiß wirklich warum. Heute ist das Dorf eine Gemeinde von Sombreffe. In einem Bauernhof, wo ebenfalls Kämpfe ausgetragen wurden, befindet sich ein Museum mit einer schönen Sammlung von Waffen, militärischer Ausrüstung und anderen bewegenden Reliquien der Kämpfe.
