Seit den dreißiger Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts gibt es die Idee, aus einem offenen Raum zwischen der Kerkstraat, der Normandlaan und dem Duinenweg einen Park zu gestalten. Dies wurde schließlich erst 1991 realisiert.
Es gab genügend Ideen für dieses Stück Land inmitten der Touristenzone, wie einen neuen Marktplatz, die Aufteilung in Luxusvillen, Parkplätze, ein Altenheim,… aber es kam niemals zu einem Konsens.
Schließlich wird 1989 der Parkplatz neben dem Park angelegt. Der Park selbst öffnete rund um Ostern 1991, erhielt jedoch nie eine offizielle Eröffnungsfeier aufgrund interner, politischer Konflikte.
Der städtische Park ist täglich von 9.00 Uhr bis Sonnenuntergang geöffnet.
