Dillingen/Saar ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Saarlouis, Saarland. Sie hat etwa 20.000 Einwohner und gliedert sich in die drei Stadtteile Dillingen-Innenstadt, Pachten und Diefflen. Das Stadtgebiet liegt am Rand des Naturparks Saar-Hunsrück an der Mündung der Prims in die Saar und ist etwa 10 km von der französischen Grenze entfernt. Historisch gehörte Dillingen zum Herzogtum Lothringen, worauf auch sein heutiges Wappen hinweist. Seitdem im Jahr 1685 der französische König Ludwig XIV. in Dillingen die Errichtung einer Eisenhütte genehmigt hatte, ist es wirtschaftlich stark von der Eisenverhüttung sowie der Metallverarbeitung geprägt. Hinsichtlich seiner Einwohnerzahl ist es die zweitgrößte Gemeinde des Landkreises Saarlouis, an dessen Kreisstadt es unmittelbar angrenzt.
