Der Ort Place Dauphine ist eng verbunden mit dem Bestsellerautor Georges Simenon. Er war nicht nur berühmt für seine Bücher, sondern auch für sein Liebesleben. Er selbst behauptete, mit zehntausend Frauen im Bett gewesen zu sein. Seine spätere Ehefrau ging von etwa eintausend aus.
Hier hatte seine Hauptfigur, Polizeikommissar Maigret, sein Stammcafé und dachte über manche Kriminalfälle nach. Das ist symbolisch gut gewählt, denn hier ist auch in der Realität das Herz der Kriminalitätsbekämpfung, in der Nähe des Justizpalastes und der Polizeipräfektur.
