Knockboy ist der höchste Gipfel im Shehy-Gebirgen und der höchste Berg im County Cork, dessen Gipfel sich mit County Kerry teilt. Er ist der 104. höchste Gipfel in Irland.
Der Berg besteht aus Sandstein, der im devonischen Zeitraum abgelagert wurde und anschließend angehoben wurde, um ein Gebirge zu bilden, bevor er während der letzten Eiszeit von Gletschern in seine heutige Form erodiert wurde.
