Aardenburg, gegründet als eine römisch-kaiserliche Stiftung, besteht seit fast zweitausend Jahren. Es gab eine große Festung für tausend Soldaten in unmittelbarer Nähe eines Dorfes, wo Bäcker, Metzger und Kaufleute zusammen mit den Familien der Soldaten lebten. Im Mittelalter war Aardenburg eine bedeutende, geschäftige und lebhafte flämische Hafenstadt. Im Stadtbild: Wandmalereien mit historischen Szenen, ein Meilenstein, Mosaiken, geschmackvolle Wirtsschilder... Unterwegs werden Sie sicherlich ein Modell der römischen Festung und das römische Torhaus treffen, das an derselben Stelle steht, an der es vor fast zweitausend Jahren erbaut wurde. Besonders ist auch der Gedichtgang mit 20 lateinischen Gedichten berühmter römischer Autoren (mit deutscher Übersetzung).
