Da der Zweite Weltkrieg für die Bevölkerung von Etten glücklicherweise ohne ernsthaften materiellen Schaden verlaufen war, wollte man als Ausdruck des Dankes eine Marienkapelle errichten.
Das Feuerwehrhaus am Markt, das leerstand, als die Feuerwehr ein besseres Zuhause gefunden hatte, erwies sich als geeignet und wurde 1952 von der Gemeinde als Kapelle in Erbpacht abgegeben.
