This remarkable bocage area extends over about fifty hectares, east of the village of Wéris, at the boundary of Famenne and Ardenne. It consists of a very dense network of hedges, tree bands, and groves surrounding small parcels of hay meadows. Some sectors, wetter and less amended than elsewhere, contain oligotrophic meadows and acidic fens, albeit in a fragmented state, but rich in sensitive species, such as the marsh helleborine (Epipactis palustris), an orchid in critical condition in Wallonia, or the flea sedge (Carex pulicaris), a once common sedge that has become very rare today. The typical birdlife of this type of landscape is well represented, with, for example, a significant density of red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio).
