Merendree presents itself with an impressive castle belt, including Ten Walle Castle, Melderen Castle, and Velde Castle, also known as the "red castle." The ascent to Molenberg (junction 55) requires some effort, but the summit offers an impressive view over the Oude Kalevallei nature reserve. In Hansbeke, one cannot overlook the blue and white shutters that reference the village's castle history.
