The collection of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum brings together more than eight thousand pieces, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and applied arts, in a prominent heritage set that spans a chronology from the 12th century to the present day. It preserves relevant examples of ancient, modern, and contemporary art, with particular interest in the painting of the Spanish and Flemish schools as well as the significant presence of Basque artists.
The museum has the most important collection of Basque artists and is also, in that aspect, the leading institution for its documentary resources, its research tradition, and its closeness to the artists themselves.
