The Ney barracks were built between 1833 and 1842 by Colonel Firmin-Claude Parnajon. It forms a "U" shape, measuring 170 meters by 95 meters, opening onto Place de la République, formerly Place Royale. In 1854, brothers Antoine Husson, Francois-Desiré Husson and Gustave Hennequin sculpted the trophies of arms in high relief at the entrance to the barracks.
