The building initially belonged to the coach operator Auguste Wirtgen. After his death, the building came into the possession of the community in 1889, serving as the town hall until 1959. In addition to the administration and the municipal art gallery of Diekirch, it currently houses, among others, classes of the Diekirch branch of the Conservatoire de Musique du Nord music school.
