For about 13,000 guilders, in 1639, the painter Rembrandt van Rijn became the owner of a property on Sint-Anthoniesbreestraat in Amsterdam. The house was built in 1606, in a new neighborhood that would later develop into the area where Jewish Amsterdammers lived together: Anthoniesbreestraat became Jodenbreestraat. However, financial problems forced the painter to sell the house again years later.
