La abadía de San Pedro ya poseía en el siglo XV un juego de diez campanas del Leenknecht. Según la lista de los hermanos de Halle, la abadía podía en 1658 jactarse de un considerable carillón de 34,544 libras. El fundidor de este no es conocido. El carillón era tocado por monjes de la abadía. En el siglo XVIII parecía que esto iba a cambiar. Jan Thibaut, carillonneur de la catedral de San Bavón, también se convirtió en carillonneur de la abadía de San Pedro en 1761. En 1771 fue sucedido por el organista Latour. F. J. A. Mertyn, quien también era organista, fue carillonneur de la abadía hasta 1797. Entonces, la torre fue desmantelada por los republicanos. Esto significó el final definitivo del carillón de la abadía.
