Lieja )[nota 1] es una ciudad belga de 192 711 habitantes, situada en la parte francófona del país, cerca de las fronteras con Alemania y Países Bajos. Es la quinta ciudad del país después de Bruselas, Amberes, Gante y Charleroi, y su área metropolitana, de más de 600 000 habitantes, la tercera después de las de Bruselas y Amberes. Es la tercera ciudad francófona más poblada del país tras Bruselas y Charleroi.[1][2] Está situada en el valle del río Mosa, cerca del límite oriental de Bélgica con los Países Bajos y Alemania, donde el Mosa se encuentra con el río Ourthe. Está en una antigua zona industrial, la espina dorsal industrial de Valonia. El municipio de Lieja incluye los antiguos poblados de Angleur, Bressoux, Chênée, Glain, Grivegnée, Jupille-sur-Meuse, Rocourt y Wandre.
