A petición de la Abadía de Orval , el arquitecto Henri Vaes construyó el puente Cordemois en el lugar del servicio de transbordadores .
Esto creó una conexión con la abadía «Notre Dame de Clairefontaine» . Este se encuentra a tres kilómetros sobre el antiguo feudo francés que dio nombre a esta estructura.
No era una idea nueva. En 1909 y 1910, el interiorista Georges Hobé ya había elaborado dos proyectos artísticos, uno de los cuales era específicamente «Art Nouveau». El edificio actual es una bella construcción con paredes laterales de pizarra de estilo gótico de 1935.
Durante mucho tiempo ha inspirado a muchos artistas.
