El GR 12 conecta a lo largo de aproximadamente 1.000 km Ámsterdam a través de Bruselas con París: tres capitales europeas en un solo sendero.
La parte flamenca de Bergen op Zoom a Braine-le-Château es un sendero sorprendentemente variado y verde en el que no solo Bruselas y Amberes, sino también ciudades como Lier y Malinas tienen su lugar.
La variante occidental GR 12 West (60 km) te lleva desde Schoten a través del centro de Amberes hasta Malinas. El trayecto te lleva por los principales lugares históricos y edificios del antiguo casco urbano, con a veces perspectivas sorprendentes. Pero también pasas por los oasis verdes en el centro de la ciudad. Al sur de Amberes caminas a través de los diferentes parques en los alrededores verdes y luego a través de Kontich y Waarloos por áreas naturales hasta Malinas.
