Tercer lugar del conjunto arquitectónico del siglo XVIII de la UNESCO, esta plaza, creada en el siglo XVI y luego remodelada en el siglo XVIII, era originalmente un lugar para las justas y los torneos, de ahí su nombre "Carrière". A la entrada de la plaza, se enfrentan dos edificios: el Hôtel de Craon (Tribunal de Apelación) y la Bourse du Commerce (Tribunal Administrativo). En el otro extremo de la plaza se encuentra el Palacio del Gobierno, enmarcado por un hemiciclo decorado con antiguas divinidades, que albergó al intendente, representante del rey de Francia, bajo el mandato de Stanislas.
