Esta robusta torre defensiva fue construida en 1520 por los monjes de la Abadía de Lérins (en la isla de Saint-Honorat, cerca de Cannes).
En aquella época, poseían extensas tierras en la región y querían proteger sus intereses de piratas y otras fuerzas hostiles. La torre sirvió como defensa costera contra los ataques de los piratas bárbaros que asaltaban regularmente la costa del sur de Francia en el siglo XVI.
Hoy en día, la Tour Carrée alberga un museo de historia y folclore local , con exposiciones permanentes sobre las tradiciones locales, la pesca y el propio pueblo.
