El Hortus Botanicus es uno de los jardines botánicos más antiguos del mundo (1682), originalmente destinado como jardín de hierbas medicinales.
En el laboratorio Hugo de Vries (1912) del arquitecto Joan van der Meij, ya se pueden reconocer algunos elementos del estilo de la Escuela de Ámsterdam en la decoración de la mampostería.
En Plantage Parklaan, en el número 9, vivía el genetista Hugo de Vries. Tenía su propio puerta de acceso justo enfrente de su casa. A través de esa puerta de acceso tienes una vista directa de la Gunnera (una planta con hojas de mamut que pueden tener un diámetro de hasta 2,50 metros).
Un poco más adelante se encuentra el magnífico Palmenkas, que fue construido especialmente para honrar a Hugo de Vries.
