Steinberg am Rofan est une commune de 287 habitants dans le district de Schwaz en Tirol. Steinberg am Rofan fait partie depuis 2021 de l'initiative internationale des villages d'alpinistes de l'association alpine. Steinberg est un petit hameau éloigné dans la chaîne de montagnes du Rofan. Le village est accessible par une route de dix kilomètres depuis Achenkirch. Le point le plus bas de la commune, où la Steinberger Ache s'écoule vers Pinegg à l'est, se situe juste en dessous de 850 mètres d'altitude. Les montagnes au sud, à l'ouest et au nord mesurent plus de 2000 mètres. Sur une superficie communale de près de 70 kilomètres carrés, quatre-vingts pour cent sont boisés, quatre pour cent sont des alpages et seulement trois pour cent sont consacrés à l'agriculture.
