Lors de l'ouverture des Fêtes de Gand en 1914, la grande cloche du Beffroi éclata. Elle était alors appelée la Triomfante. Ce truc avait alors presque 2 & 1/2 siècles (fondue en 1670 par le célèbre fondeur de cloches Hemony).
L'année suivante, Hemony fondit trois grandes cloches, dont la plus grande fut appelée Triomfante. Depuis 1913, cette cloche fonctionne à l'électricité et elle éclata lors de l'ouverture des Fêtes de Gand en 1914.
Elle fut mise au repos au pied du beffroi. En 1948, une nouvelle cloche, Roeland, fut inaugurée.
Fin 2003, la Triomfante subit une restauration complète, dans le but de la remettre dans la tour et de l'intégrer dans le carillon de Hemony.
La cloche actuelle Roeland de 1948 se retrouva alors sur la place Emile Braun.
