L'entreprise a été fondée en 1811 par Charles Gabriel de Cazanove. C'est son fils Charles Nicolas qui a permis à l'entreprise de devenir une grande maison de champagne. Après plusieurs acquisitions (notamment par Martini, Moët - Hennessy), l'entreprise est passée en 2004 aux mains de la société Rapeneau (qui possède également Champagne Mansard Baillet et Champagne G.H. Martel & Co.).
