Qui sont les Ladins ? Il n'existe pas de mot néerlandais pour désigner les habitants du Ladin, mais eux-mêmes se nomment Ladins : 30 000 habitants de cinq vallées qui s'étendent comme les bras d'une étoile de mer à partir du plateau du Sella. Leur langue, avec le rhéto-roman en Suisse et le frioulan dans le nord-est de l'Italie, constitue le dernier vestige du celtique-roman autrefois parlé dans l'ensemble des Alpes. La culture ladine possède de nombreuses légendes, dans lesquelles la femme décide généralement. Si jamais l'homme prend les rênes, c'est le désastre qui s'ensuit.
