Juste après la Première Guerre mondiale, une nouvelle tentative a été faite par les Belges pour annexer la Zélande flamande à la Belgique. Cela s'est produit lors des négociations des "vainqueurs de la Première Guerre mondiale" au Quai d'Orsay (Paris) en 1919. Ils souhaitent annexer à la fois la Zélande flamande et le Limbourg néerlandais. "Les deux régions appartiennent historiquement, linguistiquement et culturellement à la Flandre", tel est l'argument. C'était tout simplement une erreur historique du passé qui devait être corrigée, pensaient-ils du côté belge. Mais cette "fête" ne s'est pas déroulée...
