Il cimitero di Oeren, all'ombra della chiesa, non si trovava eccezionalmente vicino a un ospedale o a un posto di medicazione, ma era un luogo di sfollamento per il cimitero di Alveringem, sovraffollato.
A marzo 1915, nel cimitero di Alveringem sono già sepolti circa 200 soldati. Poiché la situazione lì diventa insostenibile, è stato ordinato l'allestimento di un cimitero militare a Oeren, contro il volere del comune. Ma anche questo dura poco, all'inizio di novembre 1915 il cimitero di Oeren viene "temporaneamente" chiuso. Da quel momento in poi, i corpi dei militari caduti vengono trasferiti nel cimitero militare di Adinkerke. Solo dal 1917 verranno nuovamente sepolti militari caduti a Oeren.
