Su una mappa figurativa del Paese di Aalst di Jacques Horenhault, datata alla fine del XVI secolo, viene rappresentato un vecchio laghetto del villaggio a nord-est del dominio del castello. Su una parte del sito dove un tempo si trovava il laghetto – sul lato rivolto verso il centro della città del Bettelhovebeek – nel 1925 fu costruita la villa Cantaert e fu realizzato il giardino ad essa associato. I restanti appezzamenti del sito del laghetto precedente furono costruiti sui tre lati e in gran parte occupati da edifici aziendali.
