Hellegat è una frazione che nel 1900 è nata presso il former Hellegatveer. Il traghetto, che operava tra Hellegat e Ruisbroek, rimase attivo fino al 1944. I lavoratori delle fornaci di mattoni lungo la riva del Rupel abitavano in piccole case e strade tra i forni e i magazzini per l'asciugatura. Molte di queste abitazioni puoi ancora trovarle qui oggi nel paesaggio urbano.
