A Tholey si trova uno dei più antichi monasteri benedettini della Germania, dedicato a San Maurizio. La più antica menzione di questo monastero risale al 634. Fu costruito sulle rovine di un bagno romano. La chiesa abbaziale in stile romanico risale al 1302.
