Appartiene al patrimonio della Deutsche Bahn AG ed è stato costruito sulla Dortmund-Soester Eisenbahn. La stazione aveva una funzione importante come stazione merci, soprattutto per miniere e ferriere. Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, il vecchio edificio della stazione fu in gran parte distrutto e nel 1955 sostituito da un edificio funzionale. Il traffico merci utilizza le linee dal 2002 solo come collegamento di passaggio, sebbene più volte al giorno. La stazione è attraversata dal ponte Hörder, che serve come ponte pedonale.
